Cliff Hanging Real Estate
In Pacifica, a small seaside town south of San Francisco, a 12 unit apartment dangles over the cliff. All the residents had to evacuate. Two other apartment buildings are in jeopardy as well. The cliff has been eroding away due to strong waves, and now construction crews, financed by the buildings' owners, are trying to insert 250 rods deep into the cliff, then spreading concrete over the cliff wall. Boulders are being spread along the bottom of the cliff to help protect it from further wave pounding.
Twelve years ago, seven houses on the same street had to be demolished because they were certainly going to fall into the ocean if left hanging.
